JAMB to Release 2025 Rescheduled UTME Results on Wednesday

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will release the results of the rescheduled 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Wednesday.

According to an official invitation notice, the event is scheduled to hold at 10:00 AM at JAMB’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.

A total of 379,997 candidates from six states—including all five states in the South East geopolitical zone and Lagos in the South West—retook the UTME between Friday, May 16 and Sunday, May 18. The resit followed technical glitches during the initial exam which began on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

JAMB Admits Responsibility

JAMB had earlier admitted responsibility for the disruption, which led to a wave of mass failure in the initial 2025 UTME. The board attributed the rare issue to errors caused by its technical officials.

Addressing a press conference in the wake of public outcry, JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, issued an unreserved apology to all affected candidates.

“I understand that there are three powerful expressions—please, thank you, and I am sorry. So, I appeal to the candidates and those affected by the error of our system to accept this explanation as the truth of the matter. Please, I apologise and take full responsibility, not just in words.”

States Affected and Steps Taken

The affected states include: Lagos, Imo, Anambra, Oyo, Abia, and Ebonyi. According to Professor Oloyede, 65 centres in Lagos and 92 centres in the Owerri Zone (covering the South East states) were directed to conduct the rescheduled exams.

Oloyede became emotional during the address, expressing deep regret over the incident and commending the public for holding JAMB accountable.

“I appreciate everyone who voiced concerns about the results. You did so out of love for the system. The opposite of love isn’t hate—it’s indifference. By speaking out, you showed that you care, and for that, we are grateful.”

Reflecting on what was initially hailed as JAMB’s most successful UTME exercise to date, Oloyede noted that the joy was later overshadowed by a preventable mistake.

“Today should have been a day of celebration, but that joy has been clouded by an error that could have been avoided. The level of public concern forced us to conduct an immediate audit—something we originally planned to do in June.”

JAMB Vows Transparency and Improvement

Professor Oloyede confirmed that the board’s internal review validated the complaints raised about the 2025 UTME results.

“Our investigation shows there were valid grounds for the complaints. That’s why we’re sharing our findings openly and objectively. We are all human, but it’s important to recognize the rigorous processes JAMB follows to ensure quality.”

Despite identifying the source of the issue and the affected centres, Oloyede acknowledged the damage to JAMB’s reputation.

“As Registrar, I take full responsibility for the actions of the service provider and our internal failings. I deeply regret the trauma this has caused many Nigerians. We assure you this does not reflect the standards we strive for, and we are committed to regaining public trust.”
