The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has shared a surprising account involving a female candidate during the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). According to the Board, the candidate refused to answer any examination questions, following her grandfather’s advice to rely solely on a ‘miraculous intervention’ for success.
This unusual incident was revealed in a statement issued on Saturday by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin.
While JAMB confirmed that the incident occurred on Saturday, April 26, it withheld details such as the candidate’s name, her state of origin, and the specific Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre where the event took place.
Dr Benjamin explained:” In a rather amusing case, a female UTME candidate declined to answer any questions during her exam session, strictly adhering to her grandfather’s instructions to do nothing but await divine intervention for success. Naturally, such miracles do not happen with JAMB,” he said.
He further urged candidates to abandon superstitions and focus on diligent preparation, stressing that academic success requires hard work, not misplaced hopes.
The episode highlights the dangers of allowing superstition to override proper preparation and underscores the importance of effort and personal responsibility in educational achievements.
