The Rivers State University Debate Society is hosting a debate and public speaking competition themed ‘The Dolphin Challenge’. Scheduled to hold from the 3rd to 7th of November 2025, the competition features debating and public speaking competitors from various higher institutions in the country competing for over 1 million naira in prizes
Student participants were required to pay a registration fee of thirty thousand naira only which covers accommodation, feeding, logistics, fun and games, in-campus transportation and miscellaneous for the entire duration of the event.

According to reports from a CampusBlog correspondent who witnessed the public speaking and debating session on day 2 of the event, the sessions were carried out with with exceptional standards and high intellectual energy. With several rounds of debating and public speaking, the topics explored ranged from governance and climate change to artificial intelligence and youth empowerment, challenging participants to think critically and argue persuasively. Competing debate teams were grouped for or against the motions. After being given the motion, debaters would be given 15 minutes to prepare without the aid of any device.
The judges — drawn from academia, media, and debating champions — praised the contestants for their composure, eloquence, and depth of research. An observer described the performances as “a testament to the intellectual potential of Nigerian students when given the right platforms.”
Participants also commended the RSU Debate Society for its organization and hospitality. A competitor from the University of Uyo remarked, “I am thankful for the hospitality, The accommodations and feeding are much better than i experienced in a previous tournament held at Ibadan.”
Beyond the debates, the event featured fun activities, networking sessions, and campus tours that allowed visitors to experience the vibrant culture of Rivers State University. They are also scheduled to visit the Oak Park and Gardens.
As the competition progresses, anticipation continues to build across the RSU campus. For many students, The Dolphin Challenge has become more than just a competition — it’s a celebration of youth brilliance, confidence, and the power of words.
