The management of Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu-Oroworukwu, Port Harcourt, has invited Student Union Government (SUG) officials, faculty and departmental presidents, as well as presidents of ethnic houses, to a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor following concerns over poor participation in university-wide activities.
The invitation was contained in an internal memorandum issued by the Office of the Acting Registrar and dated April 23, 2026.
According to the memo, the university management observed that several student leaders have consistently failed to attend official university functions, a development the institution described as unacceptable. The memorandum stated that management “frowns at the attitude” and warned that there could be consequences for continued absence from university-wide activities.
Consequently, all affected student leaders have been directed to attend a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor scheduled as follows:
- Date: Monday, May 4, 2026
- Time: 11:00 a.m. prompt
- Venue: Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room 2, Francis Ellah Administrative Building
The university further emphasized that attendance at the meeting is compulsory.
The memo was signed by the Acting Registrar, Dr. Idanyingi I. Daminabo, and copied to several university officials and units, including the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Dean of Student Affairs, Director of Health Services, Acting Chief Security Officer, and members of the Anti-Drug Abuse Committee.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by the university administration to strengthen student participation and engagement in institutional activities across campus.
Student leaders and concerned stakeholders are expected to attend the meeting as scheduled.
